It's really interesting how Dove is using this "campaign against the objectification of women and false representations of beauty in advertisement" as exactly that -- a clever advertising campaign which takes advantage of the self-esteems of consumers in order to make them buy more of Dove's beauty-enhancing products. Dove is now the leading brand in "real, pure beauty". Dove's products enhance pure beauty, whereas the other products apparently make no such claims. Just by revealing what is behind the mask of society's conceptions of beauty, Dove is "honest" and supports beauty in its pure form. OK, so what, your last upmteen years of corporate marketting success were all a lie? And despite this campaign, you don't see Dove using unattractive or imperfect women as models for their advertisements. It doesn't matter what Dove says - in fact, it's wrong. Young girls and women have already been bombarded by this for years. The perfect pictures of models still pervade in thier minds. They are not "beautiful", despite Dove's claims.
Baudrillaire is right, the "real" is completely lost in simulacra.

Simulacra supersceding simulacra in an endless convergence to a new ideology...

I love time stretched video. Perhaps the technology is now with us to allow an entire human life to be taped and stretched in such a way. Would make great primetime saturday night viewing.

Like the way a Tralfamadorian sees people, in four dimensions, as catapillars with baby legs at one end and old legs at the other.
Orwell again, Doublespeak, nothing but doublespeak. In the Judeochristoislamic tradition, the commandment is not 'Thou shalt not lie', but 'Thou shalt not BEAR FALSE WITNESS' the sin catholics call Calumny. It's no sin to say 'your bum looks tiny in that dress'. However it seems to be a sin to say, 'my opponent has admitted to the crime', when they have not.
Beauty made artificial, like WMD....as Pilate asked "what is Truth?
And I think the girl looks nicer in the image on the left....unspoiled.

    Talking about Simulacra:
Sculptor Zou Renti and his Simulacra
Sculptor Zou Renti poses with a life-like robot of himself during the 2006 China Robot Expo in Beijing. The creation has a robotic skeleton and is able to speak.

Now that's the kind of "reality television" I'd like to see...that is, next to the free-for-all, gladitorial, Escape From New York-esque Survivor. After all, after the producers pit race against race, they're going to have to make the next one even more controversial to maintain viewership.

That robot is amazing. I'm guessing the one on the left is the robot, but you can barely tell!

see, to me, Dan just keeps posting pictures of the same thing

    I reiterate: I think they're both ugly.
And I'll take the grand wager that I'm a hair more attractive than Zou Renti.
    So no foul there.
