I am searching for the title of a novel, which I think was published sometime in the mid-1980's. The story line is set in a separate dimension. A scientist, the father of the "traveller" went missing some years before. When the boy gets, for lack of a better word, sucked in to this same dimension, it is sort of like a big brother scenario. One of the first scenes he sees is a group of children, all bouncing a ball, all bouncing at the same height and speed. One child is off kilter, and is bouncing the ball at a different speed, actually drops it and it rolls away, the child chases it....the same child is seen later on in a chamber being "reprogrammed," though everyone is alive..no robots here. Anyone have any idea what this novel is??? It is driving me crazy :) I thought it was by HG Wells but I can't locate his titles. It was written around the same time as the Martian Chronicles. Terese
damn...you got me excited there for a moment. By the thread-title I thought you were looking for title suggestions for your own novel. Sorry, can't help you...I obviously haven't read what you've described.
