If you like the status quo, tough luck.
Massive change is coming: the rich will become even wealthier, and the poor, realatively speaking, will still be poor. Except everyone will be better off on the whole.
All the threats to our well being that you mention above will work as incentives to devise new strategies for success. Just don't expect to see any real improvements until things get really, really bad.
Yes, put me down as positive.

the way you describe it here sounds like my view as well. that initially humans will use technology to further some 'planned' progressive future, but that in time technology will evolve outside the scheme of humanity's perceived control.
evolution is still happening, i believe that completely. many people would like to think that mankind has risen beyond nature through our use of technology, but i fail to see how we have changed so much from animals. yes technology will extend the life on this planet, but maybe not in the way we imagine.
if i'd take a choice between funneling the money of the western world into saving the third world from poverty outright OR from devising better way to extend the lifespan of humanity as a whole then i'd probably choose the second option. life is an incredibly precious commodity on this universe, we should do everything in our conscious power to extend its roots off the planet earth.... i think life will find a way to do that whether humans are at the healm or not
there is a part of me that thinks humans don't deserve this planet. that part of me is still in conflict
