Project Pterosaur: Creationist Insanity?
Thursday, December 01, 2005 → by Danieru
"The goal of Project Pterosaur is to mount an expedition to locate and bring back to the United States living specimens of pterosaurs or their fertile eggs, which will be displayed in a Pterosaur Rookery that will be the center piece of the planned Fellowship Creation Science Museum and Research Institute (FCSMRI). Furthermore, the rookery facility will establish a breeding colony of pterosaurs in order to produce specimens that could then be put on display by other regional institutions or church groups.
By doing all this, we hope to accomplish three goals:
- Support Creation Theory by showing the incorrectness of the philosophy of Evolutionism.
- Educate the population about Creation Science.
- Create excitement about Creation and the Bible in the public...

...The Pterosaur Rookery will be the cornerstone of the Creation Science Museum: a world-class pterosaur facility staffed by the top Christian experts in pterosaur care and husbandry (who will be trained at the very same facility, since little is currently known about pterosaur needs)." - linkI cannot begin to even possibly think of maybe being able to comment on this. I mean for starters, just think of the good the funding for this project could do in pretty much any area of rational science... Go check it out for yourself and please come back to share your opinions. Let's not beat around the bush anymore: Creationists are fucking nuts.
UPDATE: Ya, its a hoax - and a great one at that. Check out the comments section for more on this. But don't worry, I still stand by my final statement in this post...

The cartoon pterosaur reminds me the dodo in the old Loonie Toons show. Porky discovered him in darkest Africa too didn't he.

It's so extensive, so committed to its deception that yes, it is hard to know at first or even second glance. As outrageous as it gets, it's never so over-the-top to be obvious - the ads that go to real Christian sites add to the mystery.
What made me initially suspicious (and eventually look up the wikipedia entry) was how nothing on the site suggests any real geographic location for this "ministry" or its practitioners. Usually fundies are loud and proud about the towns they're from, considering themselves grounded salt-of-the-earth types.

No argument here. Also, I think this may be the last time I point out that wikipedia entry. It'd be a shame if word got out too broadly that ObjMin was a parody site - it's just too good to let spoil.

The more you know the less creationism makes sense. Evolution is not a perfect thory and there could be improvements but it is the best we have. Not all animals and plants leave fossil records and we have nto found all the fossils ther eare to find. Until we have the dinosuar family photos with the time stamp we are really just making educated guesses. But in the end it is much more informed than creationism a thory of conveiniance.
