Evolution's Entities - Battle I

→ by Danieru
It's time for evolution to gets her own back! For far too long she has waited patiently as trillion upon trillions of random mutations forced her Darwinian hand.

This time mutation ain't getting a look in, 'cos this time it's personal!

Inspired by this story about cat shit deposits destroying populations of sea otters, evolution is here to get her revenge, but she needs YOUR help...

Today's contenders:

Species: Felis silvestris catus
Size: 2.5 to 7 kg
Crime: Local ecosystem devastator / poisonous shitter
Evolutionary Advantage: 9 lives
Secret Weapon: Intolerable Cuteness

Species: Enhydra lutris
Size: 30 - 40 kg
Crime: Propensity to die when exposed to enormous amounts of cat shit
Evolutionary Advantage: Insulating, waterproof fur
Secret Weapon: Retractile claws

The winner will find its place in the untold futures of planet Earth's ecosystems. And the loser?

Who will win the very first Battle of Evolution?

Only YOU can decide!!!

for the otter's "secret weapon" you could also have put "killer sex machine"

otter males are vicious sex addicts and somtimes
kill
their female counterparts. There was a rehabilitated otter (rehabilitated animals aren't quite right in the head sometimes) in the Monterey Bay region known as Chester the Molester who would drown baby seals while trying to copulate with their incompatible bodies...

but hey they're just as cute as kittens in my opinion

do panicked and angry cat owners wielding brooms and rolling pins count as a cat's weapon? after all if we're talking evolutionary edge i'd say the domesticated cat's greatest edge is that it has allied itself so closely with the big dumb humans. otters have no large, vicious, highly protective primates catering the their every whim do they?

the image that springs to mind is that of "master blaster" in mad max beyond thunderdome with the kitten seated comfortably on the big imposing human's shoulders...

I like the idea that cats/dogs/wheat/maize domesticated humans just as much as we domesticated them. Mutual evolutionary manipulation.

I hate to do this, but...

Otters: 1
Cats: 1
